New Delhi – Delhi’s chief minister, Rekha Gupta, celebrated a big step toward cleaner city streets by handing over 50 brand‑new electric buses to the public. She unveiled 30 twelve‑metre trainers and 20 nine‑metre low‑floor, air‑conditioned buses that all come with CCTV, a panic button, GPS and features that make them easy to use for everyone.
During the same ceremony, the chief minister laid the foundation stone for a new Automated Testing Station (ATS) at the DTC Tehkhand Depot in south Delhi. The station is part of the government’s push to modernise vehicle fitness testing, make it fully digital and cut the pollution that commercial vehicles bring into the capital.
“Within just eight months, we have turned a breakdown in the fleet inspection system into a smooth, transparent, tech‑driven process,” the chief minister said. “The new anos and second ATS will double the city’s testing capacity, speeding up approvals for the 650,000 commercial vehicles that need a yearly fitness certificate.”
The Tehkhand ATS, built at a cost of ₹10 crore, will run fully automated checks on brakes, suspension, underbody, headlights, axles and emissions. The department said it can handle 73,000 vehicles a year and is expected to generate about ₹3 crore in revenue.
Other venues – Burari and Jhundpura – are getting upgrades, enabling the capital to certify more than 100,000 vehicles annually. Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh highlighted that a cleaner fleet means less air pollution, while the city’s new buses and testing stations together aim to make Delhi a greener, more efficient transport hub.
The event drew transport officials and dignitaries, all in support of the city’s new, technology‑based approach to keeping Delhi’s roads safe and its skies cleaner.
