New Delhi, Dec 7 (LatestNewsX) – Dale Steyn, the former South African pace wizard, has brightened the mood for many Indian fans by announcing that vice‑captain Shubman Gill will be re‑joining the squad for the T20I series that kicks off on 9 December in Cuttack.
Gill, who hurt his neck in the opening Test against South Africa in Kolkata last month, spent a short period in physiotherapy before the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru signed him off as fit. After India secured a 2‑1 victory in the ODI series at the weekend, coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed that Gill is ready to take on the next five‑match T20I run‑in.
“Sounds like he’s back for India, so that makes every fan in India pretty excited to have him back,” Steyn said in a clip that Star Sports shared on its ‘X’ account, listing the top three things to watch out for in the upcoming fixtures.
Gill isn’t the only player returning for the Indians; the side will also be looking forward to Hardik Pandya’s comeback, who was sidelined by a quadriceps injury during the Asia Cup last September.
Steyn also expressed enthusiasm about the return of South African off‑swinger David Miller, who missed the series against Pakistan after a grade‑one hamstring strain.
‘He’s back for South Africa. Big hitting David Miller, he hits the ball out of the ground. I’m excited to watch him back,’ Steyn added.
After the opener in Cuttack, the teams will clash in New Chandigarh on 11 December, Dharamsala on 14 December, Lucknow on 17 December and Ahmedabad on 19 December.
“Last time I watched South Africa play India in a T20 was in a World Cup final in Barbados. It’s going to be a great thing to watch and very excited to be a part of it,” Steyn wrapped up, expressing his eagerness for the showdown.
