SAJEX 2025 Kicks Off in Jeddah, Boosting India-Saudi Arabia Trade Ties
The Global Gems and Jewellery Exposition, known as #SAJEX2025, opened its doors today at the Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia. This exciting event highlights the strong bond between India and Saudi Arabia, bringing together top leaders from both countries to celebrate the gems and jewellery industry.
Key figures like Indian Ambassador Dr. Suhel Khan, Consul General Fahad Suri, and Counsellor Manusmriti joined the show. They shared the stage with leaders from the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC India) and officials from Indian and Saudi government bodies. Representatives from InvestSaudi, GAFT SA, KSAMOFA, and business heads from Makkah Chamber, Jeddah Chamber, and Riyadh Chamber also attended, showing real enthusiasm for India-Saudi collaboration.
The Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia shared the news on X, saying: "The Global Gems and Jewellery Exposition #SAJEX2025, organised by @GJEPCIndia, opened today at @jeddahsuperdome. Ambassador Dr. Suhel Khan, Consul General @CGIJeddah Shri Fahad Suri, and Counsellor Ms. Manusmriti joined the leadership of @GJEPCIndia, along with officials from @DoC_GoI, @MISA, @mimgov, @InvestSaudi, @gaft_sa, @KSAMOFA, @makkahregion and business leaders from @MakkahChamber, @JeddahChamber, @RiyadhChamber, and other dignitaries to inaugurate this landmark event."
Saudi Arabia ranks as India’s fifth-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade hitting $42.98 billion in the financial year 2023-24. This expo comes at a perfect time, offering Indian gems and jewellery exporters a chance to network and spot new business opportunities. It fits right into Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan, which aims to grow the economy beyond oil through events like this.
This Jeddah show builds on the success of last year’s big event in India. Back in January, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal kicked off the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) Signature 2024 in Mumbai, also run by GJEPC. That show put India’s skills in gems, stones, and jewellery on full display, turning the country into a global hub for the industry.
During his speech, Goyal praised the sector’s growth. He said, "India has played a pivotal role as a stone supplier/gem supplier, proceeding to become an important centre for jewellery. Today is also a very important sector for the diamond industry, and now taking a leadership role in lab-grown diamonds. Over this journey, I must complement each one of you for your contributions, for the hard work and innovative efforts that each one of you has put in. My compliments to the entire gem and jewellery sector, all the players in this sector, right from the designers, manufacturers, marketers, and retailers."
Goyal highlighted the hard work of everyone involved—from designers to retailers—and stressed organized growth. He added, "It is good that we are looking at an organised growth of this sector, we are looking at a formal engagement with customers, with the international world, and I truly believe that under PM Modi guidance, India will become the global epicentre of this industry."
The IIJS Signature 2024 ran from January 4 to 7 at Jio World Convention Centre and January 5 to 8 at Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai. As GJEPC’s flagship event, it marked the 16th edition and drew over 1,500 exhibitors with more than 3,000 stalls across a huge space. This design-focused show connected Indian businesses with global retailers, showcasing fresh innovations in gems, jewellery, diamonds, and lab-grown diamonds.
Events like SAJEX 2025 and IIJS Signature 2024 show how the Indian gems and jewellery industry keeps pushing boundaries, creating jobs and boosting exports. With India’s expertise meeting Saudi Arabia’s ambitious goals, expect even more exciting partnerships ahead.
