Ahmedabad, Dec 12 (LatestNewsX) – The fourth day of the seventh season of the Tennis Premier League kicked off with the Gujarat Panthers hosting the Gurgaon Grand Slammers at the Gujarat University Tennis Stadium.
The opening session featured the women’s singles, where Sahaja Yamalapalli of the Grand Slammers squared off against Italy’s Nuria Brancaccio. The match was marked by extended rallies and aggressive shot‑making, with Sahaja holding her nerves to win 13–12, her second victory of the tournament by a single point.
Sahaja carried that momentum into the mixed doubles, teaming with Sriram Balaji to face the Panthers’ pair of Brancaccio and Anirudh Chandrasekar. The Grand Slammers demonstrated clean returns and solid net play, taking the match 14–11 to extend their early lead in the tie.
The men’s singles saw Alexandre Muller step up for the home side against Dan Evans. The Frenchman delivered a calm, commanding performance to secure a 14–11 win for Gujarat.
The men’s doubles were the most furious part of the day. Chandrasekar and Müller took on Balaji and Evans, and both teams played exceptionally well. The match, full of quick reactions, daring net moves, and precise strokes, ended 13–12 in favor of the Panthers. With both sides reaching 50 points, the overall contest finished in a draw.
The second encounter of the day pitted the Chennai Smashers against the Hyderabad Strikers. The tie began with the women’s singles, pitting Irina Bara against Carole Monnet. Monnet continued her strong form, clinching a 15–10 victory.
Monnet then partnered with Vishnu Vardhan for the mixed doubles against Bara and Rithvik Choudary Bollipalli. Momentum shifted to the Smashers in a nail‑biter marked by sharp returns, with Bara and Bollipalli capturing the match 13–12.
