Cloudburst in Dehradun’s Karligaad, rescue Ops underway

Heavy Floods Hit Dehradun After Cloudburst: Bridge Collapses, Shops and Hotels Destroyed

A powerful cloudburst struck the Sahastradhara area in Dehradun on Monday night, unleashing chaos with massive flooding in the Karligaad rivulet. The heavy, nonstop rain turned the stream into a raging torrent, sweeping away everything in its path and causing widespread destruction in Uttarakhand.

The floods didn’t hold back—they demolished a crucial bridge and wrecked properties along the riverbanks. Early reports say dozens of shops near the swollen stream got badly damaged or completely washed away. Two hotels also collapsed under the force of the rushing water, leaving locals stunned.

District officials jumped into action right away. District Magistrate Savin Bansal took charge personally, teaming up with various departments to launch quick rescue and relief efforts. Rescue teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Public Works Department (PWD), and other emergency groups rushed to the scene overnight. They brought in JCB machines and other tools to tackle the mess.

The administration started evacuating people living close to the stream, moving them to safer spots. Right now, two people remain missing, and search operations continue non-stop. With the situation so serious, all departments stay on high alert. Relief work follows the Incident Response System (IRS) to keep things organized and fast.

Following the DM’s orders, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Kumkum Joshi arrived at the site late at night to oversee the ground operations. Authorities are telling residents to stay alert and follow all safety instructions to avoid more trouble.

The cloudburst’s damage is huge, but the quick response from Dehradun’s administration aims to limit the harm and protect affected families. Finding the missing people and helping victims top their list of priorities.

This isn’t the first such scare in Uttarakhand. Back in August, another cloudburst hit Mopata village in Chamoli district’s Dewal Tehsil. It left two people missing after damaging a house and a cowshed. Sadly, 15 to 20 livestock likely got buried under the debris from that incident.
