Will discuss fertiliser issue with MP CM, says Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Farmers Block Union Minister’s Convoy in Madhya Pradesh Over Fertiliser Shortage

In a dramatic showdown in Satna district, Madhya Pradesh, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan faced a roadblock from angry farmers and Congress leaders on Thursday. The incident highlights the growing frustration over fertiliser shortages hitting farmers hard across the state.

Congress MLA from Satna, Siddharth Kushwaha, led a group of supporters and local farmers who stopped Chouhan’s convoy right on the road. As the former Chief Minister stepped out of his vehicle, he patiently listened to their complaints about the lack of urea fertiliser, which is crucial for the upcoming sowing season. Chouhan promised quick action, assuring the crowd that the government would fix the issue soon.

A viral video on social media captured the tense moment, with Chouhan surrounded by protesters. In the clip, Kushwaha urged him, saying, "Aapki sarkar hai aur aapko aadesh karna hai" – meaning "It’s your government; you just have to give the order."

Speaking to reporters later, Chouhan defended the supply chain, pointing out that Satna has actually received more fertiliser this year. "The district got 27,700 metric tonnes of urea so far, compared to just 23,500 MT last year. Fresh stocks arrived today," he said. He added that he’d talk to the state government and the Ministry of Fertilisers to prevent any future shortages for Madhya Pradesh farmers.

Chouhan also clarified the division of responsibilities, explaining, "I’m the Agriculture Minister, but fertiliser distribution falls under a separate ministry. Both play different roles, but we’ll sort this out." He admitted the challenges farmers face and pledged to discuss it directly with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.

The opposition Congress didn’t hold back, slamming the BJP government for poor fertiliser distribution in Madhya Pradesh. At a press conference in Bhopal, Congress MLA and Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar blamed internal rivalries for the mess. "The Centre says there’s no fertiliser shortage, but the real problem is the state’s botched distribution system. The tussle between Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Mohan Yadav has left farmers in crisis," Singhar claimed.

This fertiliser shortage protest in Madhya Pradesh comes at a critical time for farmers preparing for the kharif season. With elections on the horizon, the row over urea supply and farmer grievances could heat up political debates in the state. Stay tuned for updates on how the government responds to these Madhya Pradesh fertiliser issues.
