During Durga Puja celebrations in Agartala, Tripura police acted quickly after a wave of complaints about assault and teasing. They arrested every person named in the reports. The next day, the accused were taken to court. Some are now in police remand, while others are on judicial remand, says Officer‑in‑Charge Rana Chatterjee. “All offenders have been apprehended and handed over to the court,” Chatterjee said.
On the same weekend, Agartala hosted the city’s first Ravana Dahan ceremony. The symbolic burning of the mythical demon took place on October 2 at the BT College ground. Chief Minister Manik Saha opened the event, walking to the pyre and marking the triumph of good over evil, a tradition celebrated across India as Dussehra or Dashahara. The ceremony drew a large crowd and was attended by the mayor and other dignitaries.
BJP leader Papia Datta praised the event, noting that it had been celebrated in Belonia and Shantir Bazar before and affirming its significance for Agartala. “We are happy that the Chief Minister inaugurated the Ravana Dahan, celebrating Lord Rama’s victory,” Datta said.
The police, judiciary and local officials worked together to maintain order during the holiday season, ensuring that the Durga Puja festivities and the new Ravana Dahan ceremony proceeded safely and peacefully.
