‘Aware of Punjab’s conversions, Bengal’s violence a concern’: RSS

In Jabalpur on Saturday, Dattatreya Hosabale, the general secretary of India’s right‑wing Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), warned that the organization is monitoring the rise of religious conversions in Punjab’s Sikh community. He said the RSS has been working to halt what he calls a “well‑planned” campaign that targets Sikhs, tribals and Hindus.

Hosabale told reporters that the RSS is running a “Dharma Jagran” awareness programme across Punjab, calling it an essential step to keep people true to their faith. He also mentioned “ghar‑wapsi” initiatives—campaigns that aim to bring former converts back to Hinduism. “Ghar‑wapsi can only happen through awakening people,” he said.

The RSS executive meeting in Jabalpur, which lasted three days, included a detailed discussion on religious conversion. According to Hosabale, the organization will keep “a close watch” on the issue and continue its outreach.

While he focused on Punjab, Hosabale also criticized the growing violence and instability in West Bengal. He said the state’s border location makes it vulnerable to tensions from Bangladesh. “The political leadership in Bengal has failed to end this malaise,” he said, calling for a cleaner, more peaceful atmosphere.

The RSS spokesperson added that the party has no position on the Bihar elections at the moment, but urged voters to focus on national issues rather than caste or money politics. The statement reflects the organization’s broader stance on religious identity and social harmony across India.
