India’s Bihar assembly election is still in suspense, as counting continues and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) looks set for a landslide win. The Congress party, meanwhile, faces a bruising defeat, winning only a handful of seats so far.
### Congress leaders call out the system
Congress MP Udit Raj told that “the vote‑counting process is not a win for the NDA but for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and the Election Commission of India (ECI).” He accused the Election Commission of taking “votes” away from the state’s voters.
Tariq Anwar said the Congress would review every factor that led to the loss. “We will learn from the shortcomings so we can perform better next time,” he said.
MP Manoj Kumar told supporters that he respected the choice of Bihar’s voters. “If the people elect the NDA, we will accept it. We worked hard, and the people honored us,” he added, thanking the electorate for their support.
Rashid Alvi had warned before the polls that the BJP, JD(U), bureaucracy, the RSS, and the Election Commission would form a winning coalition. He called it “a total alliance of power.”
### BJP pushes the attack on Rahul Gandhi
BJP’s IT cell chief Amit Malviya launched a mockery at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, posting a graphic that lists Congress defeats from 2004 to 2025. “Rahul Gandhi — another loss,” Malviya wrote. “If there were awards for electoral consistency, he’d win them all.”
The BJP said the Utah Raj’s “failed attempts to win back the state” embarrass Rahul Gandhi. They emphasised that the NDA’s headline reasons for victory are the promises of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
### Early trends and seat counts
By 13:00, early counts put the NDA over 200 seats, pointing toward a decisive majority. At 13:55, the Election Commission’s preliminary numbers showed the BJP as the single largest party with 91 seats, followed by JD(U) with 79 seats.
Partners in the NDA also held 22 seats (LJP(RV)), 4 seats each for Rashtriya Lok Morcha & HAMS. The Mahagathbandhan (the opposition coalition) held 36 seats.
### Counting process
Counting began at 8:00 a.m. for all 243 assembly seats. Postal ballots were read first, followed at 8:30 a.m. by electronic voting machine (EVM) totals. The process was covered by intense multi‑tier security.
### Voter turnout
More than 70 crore voters turned out in two phases on November 6 and 11. The voters’ choices will decide whether the NDA continues its rule or the Mahagathbandhan wins under Tejashwi Yadav’s leadership.
As the counting continues up to the 20th round, the trend is clear: the NDA is poised for a sweeping victory in Bihar, while the Congress faces a tough rebuild after this significant electoral loss.
