Maharashtra: Ujjwala Yojana brings drastic changes in lives of Latur women

Women across India are experiencing positive change thanks to the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), a government scheme that aims to promote clean, smoke-free kitchens in rural areas. This initiative is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to create healthier, smoke-free villages and improve the lives of women.

In Latur, Maharashtra, the impact of the Ujjwala scheme is clear. Women in villages like Ausa are now cooking with LPG gas instead of traditional methods that produce harmful smoke. This shift is making their lives easier and healthier.

Shobha Balkrishna Wade from Ausa city shared her experience, saying she used to cook on a traditional stove and had to go into the forest for firewood. Now, thanks to the LPG connection provided under PMUY, she cooks with clean fuel, which has greatly improved her health. She expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi, saying, “This has proved to be very beneficial for us. We suffered from smoke and had to work hard for firewood. But after getting a gas connection, life has become much easier and healthier.”

Another woman, Jyoti Anand Wade, also shared her happiness. She said, “Getting the gas connection has brought new hope. We are now free from smoke, and cooking is much more convenient. I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this.”

The Ujjwala Yojana provides free LPG connections, including the first refill and stove, to poor families. It also offers a subsidy of Rs 300 per 14.2 kg cylinder (or proportionate for smaller cylinders), which helps families afford multiple refills. This scheme is helping millions of women switch to clean cooking fuel, protecting their health and making household chores easier.

Overall, the Ujjwala scheme is transforming rural India by giving women access to safe, smoke-free kitchens. It’s a big step forward in building a healthier, cleaner India.
