Kolkata: A Booth Level Officer (BLO) had a heart attack while handling Special Intensive Revision (SIR) duties in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal and was taken to a hospital.
Police said the officer, Sushanta Tikadar, was found unconscious at his house on Monday afternoon, surrounded by enumeration forms and various documents. He was transferred to another facility because his condition did not improve.
According to family members, Tikadar suffered the attack during the SIR task at Gopalnagar‑1 Gram Panchayat, Part No. 106, in Bangaon.
“Tikadar was working on updating the enumeration form at home on Monday afternoon. At that time, he suddenly fell ill,” his family said.
A senior police officer in North 24 Parganas confirmed that the family carried him to Bangaon Sub‑divisional Hospital, but doctors sent him to Kalyani Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Nadia district after assessing his condition. He is now receiving care there.
BLO’s daughter, Shreya Tikadar, told reporters that her father’s health remains weak. “The physical condition of my father did not improve much on Wednesday either, two days after suffering the heart attack,” she added.
She explained that he went ill while battling the stress of SIR tasks. “On Monday, while working at home, my father said, ‘I feel sick’. He collapsed within a few moments. I called my uncle. He was taken to the hospital. In fact, my father’s blood pressure had increased while working. The doctor said he had a heart attack. The entire family is worried about BLO’s health,” she recalled.
This event follows a week after the deaths of two female BLOs, reportedly by suicide linked to SIR pressure, and the earlier collapse of another BLO from a cerebral attack.
Separately, a BLO in Gosaba, South 24 Parganas, also experienced a heart attack.
