Drone recovered near LoC in Jammu

Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Jammu district recovered a mysterious drone from a village near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Akhnoor sector on Saturday. Officials shared that they found the device in a field in Fattu Kotli village during a routine check.

Right away, the Jammu and Kashmir Police launched an investigation to figure out where the drone came from. They’re checking if it flew in from across the LoC in Pakistan or if locals used it for something harmless like filming a wedding or other events.

This isn’t the first time drones have raised alarms in the region. Terror groups based in Pakistan have long used these flying gadgets to smuggle arms, ammunition, cash, and even drugs into Jammu and Kashmir. The method is sneaky: handlers drop the illegal payloads at spots they’ve planned with local terror outfits, often far from the border.

To avoid danger, terrorists rely on overground workers (OGWs)—everyday people who collect these drops. Many OGWs get lured by money or use the terror network to settle personal grudges against neighbors or family. It’s a risky game that keeps terrorism alive in the area.

Jammu and Kashmir shares a 740-km LoC with Pakistan and a 240-km International Border (IB). The Indian Army keeps watch along the LoC, while the Border Security Force (BSF) handles the IB. Specifically, BSF covers the IB in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts, and the Army patrols the LoC in places like Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Rajouri, Poonch, and parts of Jammu.

To fight back against these cross-border drones, the BSF rolled out advanced anti-drone systems along the IB. These high-tech tools detect and take down drones in mid-air. Since then, drone sightings from across the border have dropped sharply, making the region safer.

Stay tuned as the police dig deeper into this drone recovery—could it be a sign of bigger threats or just a local mix-up?
