CBI Submits Sixth Status Report in RG Kar Doctor Rape-Murder Case
In a key update on the shocking RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed its sixth status report on Friday. This comes nearly a year after the tragic incident in Kolkata, where a young junior doctor lost her life in August last year.
The report landed at the Sealdah trial court in central Kolkata. This is the same court that earlier sentenced Sanjay Roy, a former Kolkata Police civic volunteer, to life imprisonment for the brutal rape and murder. But the story doesn’t end there. The CBI has already pushed the Calcutta High Court for the death penalty for Roy, while he has filed for acquittal in the same court.
Right now, the CBI digs deeper into a possible larger conspiracy behind the crime. They’re also looking into claims of evidence tampering during the initial probe by Kolkata Police. The Calcutta High Court handed the investigation to the CBI after concerns arose, and the case now runs in parallel across three levels: the Supreme Court, Calcutta High Court, and the Sealdah trial court.
The victim’s parents aren’t holding back their frustration. They’ve slammed the CBI for moving too slowly on uncovering any bigger plot in the RG Kar rape and murder. During Friday’s court hearing, their lawyer highlighted how a staff member at RG Kar initially tried to fool the parents by calling the incident a suicide, not the horrific rape and murder it was.
The lawyer pressed the CBI: "Can you find out who ordered such dirty tricks?" They warned that if the probe drags on like this, the full truth about the Kolkata doctor murder case might stay hidden forever.
The trial court judge stepped in, urging the CBI to at least identify that RG Kar staffer who misled the family. As the investigation continues, many eyes remain on how the CBI handles these leads in the ongoing RG Kar case updates.
