K’taka hit-and-run road rage: Techie arrested for attempt to murder

Bengaluru traffic chaos turns deadly after a software engineer drives his car into a scooter, leaving a family injured and sparking a hit‑and‑run investigation.

At 7:11 p.m. on Oct. 26, CCTV cameras on New BEL Road caught 23‑year‑old Sukrit Keshav Gowda on a private‑company car recklessly speeding near MS Ramaiah Hospital. The driver was triggered by a scooter rider, Vineth A, who tried to overtake at a traffic signal. When Vineth honked at Gowda, the engineer became angry, backed the scooter into a divider, and then deliberately struck it from behind.

The collision threw Vineth, his wife Anikita, and their young son onto the road. Anikita suffered injuries to her left hand, shoulder, and head; Vineth broke a rib. Passersby rushed them to MS Ramaiah Hospital, where the family received treatment and was later discharged. Vineth was readmitted to St. John’s Hospital after pain intensified.

Police were alerted by the footage and witnesses. Gowda fled the scene, but local police traced him near Balaji Layout. He was arrested by Sadashivnagar police and booked under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for attempted murder. The case is now in judicial custody, and investigators are pursuing further charges.

The incident has spread across social media, raising concerns about road safety and driver aggression in Bengaluru’s bustling streets. Authorities urge vigilance and responsible driving to prevent such tragedies.
