Protesters heckle Trump at Washington restaurant

US President Donald Trump faced a heated protest on Tuesday evening while heading to a popular Washington, DC restaurant for dinner. The incident unfolded just blocks from the White House, marking his first outing for a meal since starting his second term.

As Trump walked toward Joe’s Seafood with Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, a group of activists started shouting slogans. Videos shared by CNN captured the protesters yelling, “Free DC! Free Palestine! Trump is the Hitler of our time!” Trump didn’t respond directly but signaled his security team to clear the area, saying, “Come on, let’s go.”

The activist group Code Pink later claimed responsibility on X (formerly Twitter). They posted, “While Trump, JD Vance, Marco Rubio, Pete Hegseth and others feasted at a steakhouse, we stood our ground and told them the truth: Free DC. Free Palestine. Trump is the Hitler of our time.” The group added that Trump looked them in the eyes and that they aimed to ensure “he will never dine in peace while communities are under siege.”

This visit to Joe’s Seafood wasn’t just about dinner—it was a deliberate move to highlight Trump’s claims about improved safety in Washington, DC. Before entering, he spoke to reporters outside, boasting, “We have a capital that’s very, very safe right now.” He went on, “The restaurants now are booming. People are going out to dinner where they didn’t go out for years, and it’s a safe city.” Trump has credited the recent deployment of federal troops for the changes, which he says have transformed the US capital into a safer place.

The protest sparked quick backlash from conservatives. Influencer Laura Loomer took to X to criticize the Secret Service, questioning, “Where the hell is @SecretService? How did they get within inches of him? This is insane. How did this happen!?” Her post raised concerns about security lapses during the Trump protest in Washington, DC.

Unlike his first term, when Trump mostly dined at his own hotel in the capital, this outing shows a more relaxed approach in his new presidency. The event quickly went viral, drawing attention to ongoing debates about protests, DC safety, and Trump’s leadership.
