When Salim Khan spoke about his 65-Year bond with Dharmendra: ‘Both of us have seen a lot of struggles’

Mumbai, November 24 – Bollywood giant Dharmendra’s death has left the nation and the film industry in deep sorrow. Fans remember him as a truly good person and a close confidante to many stars. One such friendship was with writer Salim Khan. In a long‑time Lehren TV interview, Salim, who had worked on the set of “Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya,” spoke at length about his connection with the “Sholay” actor.
He reflected on their bond:
“We have both known each other since 1958‑1959. Both of us had seen a lot of struggle, and many things are common between us.”
He also praised Dharmendra’s character:
“ He is a wonderful person. Whenever I thought about whom I should cast in Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya for this particular role, I first thought of Dharamji. He is like a family member and like an elder brother to us.”
For those who might not know, Dharmendra died on November 24, the same day Salim Khan turned 90. Together with lyricist Javed Akhtar and actor Amitabh Bachchan, they helped create a timeless classic like Sholay. Dharmendra would have celebrated his 90th birthday on December 8 this year.
The legendary actor was cremated today at Vile Parle’s Pawan Hans crematorium. Bollywood heavyweights – Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and many others – gathered there to pay their last respects. In mid‑November, Dharmendra had been admitted to South Mumbai’s Breach‑Candy Hospital but was discharged after showing signs of recovery.
He leaves behind his first wife, Prakash Kaur; their four children – Sunny, Bobby, Ajeta, and Vijayta Deol – his second wife, Hema Malini, and their two daughters, Esha and Ahana Deol. – LatestNewsX
