Mumbai, Nov. 30 (LatestNewsX) – Bollywood icon Aamir Khan lamented that audiences now judge films by their numbers rather than their substance. Speaking at the 56th International Film Festival of India, he urged the industry to keep box‑office figures visible to the public.
In a candid address, the “Perfectionist” recalled how in the U.S. anyone can see a movie’s earnings. “Really, this should be transparent. What are we hiding? We know how many screens the film is released on. All we need are the rental rack numbers – that’s how you find out the collections,” he said, stressing that such data should be openly accessible.
When asked about the growing obsession with box‑office stats as a quality metric, Aamir noted the irony. “I don’t know, why should numbers be a secret? I’ve just found out that people treat them as an evaluative criterion now.”
He added that the legacy of a film ultimately lies in its lasting impact on viewers, not in its financial haul. “In the end, audiences remember only a good film, whatever its box‑office numbers may be.”
During the interview, the actor also recounted how he invited his younger son, Azad, to meet veteran star Dharmendra. Having spent the final year of Dharmendra’s life in close contact, Aamir felt it was essential for his son to experience the legend’s presence, especially since Azad hadn’t previously encountered Dharmendra’s work.
