India wins two silver medals in team competition at Asian Schools Chess C’ships in Mongolia

India’s youngest chess champions once again showcased their talent on the international stage. In Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, a trio of under‑7 players stole silver at the 2025 Asian Schools Chess Championship.

The team was led by 7‑year‑old Laksh Satyen Jain from Mumbai. Joining him were ACM Kavish Bhattad and Sivansh Naga Aditya Kasukurthy, both from Pune. Together they scored 12 points in a tough nine‑round Swiss tournament, finishing just shy of Mongolia’s home side, which edged them out with 16.5 points to take the gold.

The event ran from October 24 to Friday, drawing more than 800 players from 16 countries. It was organized by the Asian Chess Federation and the Mongolian Chess Federation and ran under the rules of the World Chess Federation (FIDE). Matches were played with a rapid time control of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move.

Despite fierce competition and challenging conditions, the Indian trio held their nerve. They displayed tactical sharpness and fighting spirit, adding another chapter to India’s long tradition of producing world‑class players at a young age. “This achievement shows the discipline, consistency, and maturity our young players bring so early in life,” said Durga Nagesh Guttula, principal and chief coach of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Mumbai.

The silver medal in the Under‑7 Rapid Team Category is part of a larger success story for India. In the Under‑9 Team Category, a group led by AFM Shreyan Thipparthi, Nova Ayer Jugal, and Hriday Garg also finished with silver, confirming India’s growing foothold in youth chess across Asia.

The championship, one of the largest and most competitive editions to date, highlighted the depth of talent in the region. Indian youth continue to perform strongly in Asian and global age‑group events, cementing the country’s reputation for nurturing promising chess players from an early age.
