In Patna, leaders in Bihar are rattling the political waters as the state gears up for its November elections.
Tejashwi Yadav, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) spokesperson and Bihar’s Leader of the Opposition, has launched a fresh pledge: a government job for every household in the state within 20 months of the new government forming. He said the Mahagathbandhan coalition will pass a law in the first 20 days that guarantees employment for families that currently have none.
“You’ll see real results,” Tejashwi told reporters. “In the 17 months I was in office, we created 500,000 jobs—about 350,000 people already have appointment letters.” He criticized the incumbent Nitish Kumar administration, suggesting it has failed to deliver jobs for over two decades.
BJP leader Sanjay Mayuk shot back, calling Tejashwi’s promise “false” and warning voters that elections can’t be won on empty words.
“People in Bihar are watching. If the future promises stay unfulfilled, we will know,” he said.
The job guarantee comes just weeks before Bihar’s Assembly elections, set to take place in two phases on November 6 and 11, with results due on November 14. Both opposition and ruling parties are sharpening their messaging, but only the numbers—hundreds of thousands of new government jobs—might sway the electorate.
Keep an eye on Bihar’s political scene as the promise of more government jobs could change the county’s voting map this November.
