AAP Leader Takes Helm at Punjab Agro Foodgrains Corporation Amid State Flood Challenges
In a key move for Punjab’s agricultural sector, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Baljinder Singh Dhillon stepped in as the new Chairman of Punjab Agro Foodgrains Corporation Ltd on Friday. The event in Chandigarh saw AAP Punjab President and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora joining the celebrations, highlighting the party’s focus on strengthening the state’s foodgrain management.
But while leaders gear up for bigger roles, Punjab farmers are grappling with severe flood woes. Heavy rains have triggered widespread flooding, especially in Fazilka district, where water from the Satluj River has devastated crops and homes. Farmers in Jalalabad area’s villages like Dandi Kadam and Dhani Natha Singh shared their heartbreak with , revealing that around 1,500 acres of paddy fields lie ruined. "The floods have washed away our entire harvest—it’s a total loss," one farmer said, urging the Punjab government for quick compensation and debt waivers to help them bounce back.
The affected families aren’t just worried about fields; floodwaters have also damaged houses, leaving many in dire straits. The government is stepping up with fodder for livestock, essential food supplies, and relief centers in Jalalabad city. Naib Tehsildar Shanu assured everyone that relief materials are reaching the flood-hit spots smoothly. "Things are under control—please don’t panic," she added, emphasizing the administration’s efforts to support Punjab flood victims.
As heavy rainfall continues across Punjab, another incident shook residents in S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) district. A wall collapsed at a residential society in Zirakpur due to the downpour, raising safety concerns amid the ongoing weather chaos. Punjab’s battle with floods underscores the urgent need for robust farmer support and disaster relief in the region.
