India, Morocco sign MoU on defence cooperation, Rajnath Singh says Indian companies well-positioned to meet Rabat’s defence needs

India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met with his Moroccan counterpart Abdeltif Loudiyi in Rabat on September 22, 2025, to boost ties between the two nations. The leaders signed a key Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on defence cooperation, setting up a strong base for their partnership.

This agreement opens doors for teamwork in the defence industry, joint military exercises, training programs, and building skills for armed forces. Singh and Loudiyi agreed to ramp up collaboration and laid out a clear plan covering hot topics like counter-terrorism, maritime security, cyber defence, peacekeeping missions, military medicine, and sharing experts.

The talks showed both countries’ commitment to deepening their long-standing friendship. To push these efforts forward, Singh announced a new Defence Wing at India’s embassy in Rabat, which will help coordinate activities on the ground.

He praised India’s defence sector for its advanced tech, including drones and counter-drone systems, and said Indian firms are ready to support Morocco’s military needs. The ministers highlighted the value of more exchanges between their armed forces, new training opportunities, and joint projects for developing and producing defence equipment.

They also called for stronger teamwork on global and regional security issues, especially in maritime areas linking the Indian Ocean and Atlantic routes. Singh invited Loudiyi to visit India soon to discuss ways to expand this defence cooperation even further.

This meeting stands out as a big step in India-Morocco relations, aligning their strategic goals. Singh’s trip marks the first time an Indian defence minister has visited Morocco; he arrived on Sunday for a two-day stay focused on official talks.
