Guv Bhalla lauds Manipur Police for success against extremism, illegal poppy cultivation
In Imphal, Gov. Ajay Kumar Bhalla praised the Manipur Police during the state’s 134th Raising Day Parade. The ceremony, held on Sunday at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground, celebrated police officers for their bravery in fighting extremism, destroying illegal poppy farms, and pushing forward modern training and welfare programs.
Bhalla, a former Union Home Secretary, toured the parade and highlighted the force’s dedication. He called the police “guardians of peace and harmony,” applauding their work in tackling organized crime, stopping drug trafficking, and keeping citizens safe even in difficult situations.
The governor also congratulated athletes turned officers. Olympian Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, now an ASP, and Arjuna Award winner Naorem Roshibina Devi, who serves as Deputy Superintendent of Police (Sports), brought international acclaim to the department with their sporting success.
During the march‑past, Commandant Sarangthem Ibomcha Singh led units from the Manipur & Civil Police, including the 9th Mahila Battalion, traffic police, Home Guards, and Village Defence Force. Bhalla presented trophies to standout stations and personnel for outstanding service and courage.
Other key attendees were MLA members, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, DG Police Rajiv Singh, and senior officers. A skill showcase by the Manipur Police Sports Club finished the event, underscoring the motto “Service Before Self.”
