On December 3, officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) announced a new digital push aimed at tightening day‑to‑day operations across its network. Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said the railway has now rolled out a 100 % biometric Sign‑On/Sign‑Off system for every ticket‑checking employee in all 22 TTE lobbies, spanning the five NFR divisions.
The upgrade is already live at major stations such as Katihar, Kishanganj, Alipurduar Junction, New Bongaigaon, Rangiya Junction, Kamakhya, Guwahati, Dibrugarh Town and New Tinsukia, allowing every staff movement, attendance record and duty check to be logged transparently. Consequently, Sharma noted gains in discipline, punctuality and overall service quality—real‑time attendance data now feeds into better staffing plans for training and customer support duties.
The biometric system also sharpens ticket‑checking procedures, curtails irregularities, and boosts revenue by ensuring higher integrity in window sales. Dedicated teams at both divisional and zonal headquarters continuously monitor the installations and data streams to keep operations running smoothly.
“By embracing advanced digital tools, we’re improving efficiency, enhancing passenger service and driving revenue growth,” Sharma added, positioning this move as the next step toward a clearer, more efficient and technologically modern railway system. The NFR serves the northeastern states, as well as seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of North Bihar.
