Aiden Markram, the South African all‑rounder, said he enjoyed his first season with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and is thrilled to be kept on for the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL).
Last year’s IPL, the 19th edition of the high‑profile tournament, saw Markram score 445 runs in 13 matches. He averaged 34.23 and finished with a strike rate of 148.83, including five half‑centuries. He also claimed four wickets, showing that he could contribute as a bowler too.
In a video posted by the franchise, Markram expressed his gratitude: “It was great. I really enjoyed my time with Lucknow last year. I built solid friendships and had a good few months with the squad. I’m very grateful to be retained and I’m looking forward to another season.”
When asked how he would adjust his approach for the next IPL, the cricketer said teamwork is key and that small differences can change outcomes. “You have to be really good as a team. We were close last season; a few moments and a few results could have turned out differently,” he explained. “Once we qualify for the knockout, it’s all about timing. We’ll focus on what worked, redo those moments, and aim to win the crucial games.”
Despite appointing Rishabh Pant as captain and bringing former paceman Zaheer Khan on as mentor, LSG finished seventh in 2025 and missed the playoffs for the second straight year. The squad lost two straight matches to close out the league stage, costing them a spot in the knock‑out rounds.
The team plans to make key changes before the next auction, hoping to turn fortunes around for IPL 2026.
