Qatar PM to Meet US Officials After Israel’s Controversial Strike on Hamas Leaders in Doha
Doha, Qatar – Tensions are rising in the Middle East after Israel’s airstrike on top Hamas leaders in Qatar’s capital. Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, plans to meet senior US officials soon, as reported by Al Jazeera. This comes right after the United Nations Security Council strongly condemned the attack, which targeted Hamas figures staying in a residential area of Doha.
Hamas leaders vowed to keep up the fight despite the strike. They insist on their main goals: a complete Israeli troop withdrawal from Gaza and full rebuilding of the war-torn area. The group said the attack killed five members but didn’t take out their key negotiating team. Qatar has played a big role as a mediator in Gaza ceasefire talks, making this strike especially shocking.
The drama unfolded when Israel launched the airstrike using advanced fighter jets. Israeli officials confirmed more than 10 jets took part, including US-made F-35I stealth aircraft that dodge radar detection. Qatar slammed the move as "state terrorism" and called Israel a "rogue player" in the region. Prime Minister Al Thani made these strong remarks at a news conference, according to CNN. He accused Israel of using weapons that slipped past defenses and revealed that the US only reached out 10 minutes after the explosions started.
Adding to the controversy, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on September 10 that President Trump had ordered Special Envoy Witkoff to warn Qatar about the impending Israeli strikes. She stressed that the US sees Qatar as a close ally and feels bad about the attack happening on its soil. But Qatar fired back, denying any prior notice. Majed Al Ansari, advisor to the Prime Minister and spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, called the US claims "baseless." He posted on X that the call from a US official arrived amid the sounds of explosions – not before.
Qatar’s denial has sparked questions about coordination between allies in the Israel-Hamas conflict. As the Qatar Prime Minister heads to talks with US officials, many wonder if this will strain ties or push for better communication in the ongoing Gaza crisis. Stay tuned for updates on this escalating Middle East situation.
