My dream is to make Madurai an industrial city, says Stalin as Rs 36,665 crore investment pacts signed

On Sunday, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, speaking from Chennai, outlined his ambition to turn Madurai into a major industrial hub and emphasized that Tamil Nadu’s development strategy rests on balanced, inclusive progress in every district.

The announcement came during a large investors’ forum held near Chinthamani, Madurai, where 91 memoranda of understanding were signed worth Rs 36,665 crore, laying the groundwork for 56,766 new jobs.

The event, named “TN Rising Conclave,” was chaired by the Chief Minister and drew top business leaders and senior government officials.

Stalin pointed out that attracting industrial investment is not easy; it requires solid governance, stable policies, reliable infrastructure and strong investor confidence.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to turning investment pledges into action, promising close oversight of each project’s rollout.

“The state has proven it can achieve widespread, balanced growth,” he said, adding that the focus extends beyond a handful of cities to every district, and that Madurai will now take a leading role in Tamil Nadu’s next wave of industrial development.

A highlight of the summit was an MoU with Hyundai for shipbuilding in Thoothukudi, aimed at boosting the coastal industrial and maritime sector. The project should create direct and indirect jobs and enhance port‑linked economic activity.

In Madurai, a non‑leather footwear plant will be launched in partnership with Taiwan‑based PEI HAI Group, diversifying export‑focused manufacturing. Meanwhile, Theni will host a major expansion by SFO Technologies to produce electronic components, strengthening the region’s electronics industry.

Officials noted that the wide array of investments—spanning electronics, shipbuilding, footwear and large‑scale manufacturing—illustrates Tamil Nadu’s strategy of encouraging diversified industrial growth.

With these high‑value MoUs, Madurai is set on a path toward significant economic transformation, aligning with the state’s vision of steady industrial expansion and equitable regional development.
