Mauritius PM Meets Indian Vice President in Delhi: Boosting Trade and Ties

In a key diplomatic meeting in New Delhi, Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam sat down with Indian Vice President CP Radhakrishnan at the Vice-President’s Enclave. The talks zeroed in on ways to ramp up trade, economic partnerships, and people-to-people connections between India and Mauritius.

Vice President Radhakrishnan shared details on X (formerly Twitter), posting: "Prime Minister of Mauritius, H.E. Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, met Hon’ble Vice-President Shri CP Radhakrishnan at Vice-President Enclave today. Discussions focused on strengthening trade, economic, and people-to-people ties between India and Mauritius." This interaction highlights the growing India-Mauritius relations amid ongoing global diplomacy.

Earlier that day, Union Minister JP Nadda also held a warm meeting with PM Ramgoolam in Delhi. Nadda spotlighted the deep cultural and historical bonds that tie the two nations together. He pointed out how this visit builds on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s earlier trip to Mauritius this year, which upgraded their bilateral ties to an Enhanced Strategic Partnership.

Welcoming the Mauritius leader, Nadda praised recent steps in India-Mauritius cooperation. These include setting up an AYUSH Centre of Excellence in Mauritius, India’s help for the new SSR National Hospital, and the launch of the first overseas Jan Aushadhi Kendra there. These initiatives show India’s commitment to supporting healthcare and wellness in Mauritius.

Nadda even opened up about the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) structure, vision, and its global outreach through the Know BJP program. To strengthen ties further, he suggested exchanging delegations between the BJP and Mauritius’s Labour Party.

Both leaders agreed to deepen collaboration in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, reflecting the strong trust and friendship in the India-Mauritius partnership. Nadda was joined by Vijay Chauthaiwale, who heads the BJP’s Foreign Affairs Department.

These meetings come as India continues to nurture its strategic alliances in the Indian Ocean region, with Mauritius playing a vital role in trade, culture, and development.
