Bahrain’s foreign minister, Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani, has landed in New Delhi today to take part in the fifth India‑Bahrain High Joint Commission (HJC) meeting. The event, co‑chaired by India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, aims to push the partnership between the two countries further into the future.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced the visit on the social‑media platform X, celebrating a “warm welcome” for the Bahraini delegation. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted, “This visit offers an opportunity to build on the positive momentum in India‑Bahrain relations.”
### What the High Joint Commission Does
The HJC is the main forum for reviewing and strengthening the wide array of ties that India and Bahrain share. In this session, officials will look at progress in existing sectors—such as trade, investment, finance, energy, health, and education—and will explore new opportunities. Topics of particular interest include digital technology, fintech, renewable energy, and start‑up collaboration.
### A Long‑Standing Relationship
India and Bahrain have enjoyed diplomatic relations since 1971, and a sizeable Indian community works across the kingdom, feeding into its economy. Bilateral trade includes petroleum products, machinery, electronics and food items, with both sides noting a steady rise in money exchanged between the two economies.
### Building on Past Visits
Past high‑level meetings have strengthened ties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made history in August 2019 by visiting Bahrain for the first time in a joint effort that led to new agreements and a higher level of strategic engagement.
### Looking Ahead
With the HJC in session, the goal is clear: deepen economic links, strengthen cooperation in regional and global arenas, and foster people‑to‑people exchanges. New Delhi and Manama reaffirm their shared commitment to a partnership built on mutual respect, economic cooperation, and people‑centric development.
