On Gandhi Jayanti, actress and politician Kangana Ranaut highlighted the cultural significance of khadi in India. She wore a khadi saree and blouse to celebrate the day, calling it a handmade treasure that’s gaining global attention.
Kangana stressed the need for self-reliance, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s views on reducing dependence on other countries. "Today, I’m wearing a khadi saree and khadi blouse—our own indigenous fabric talked about worldwide for its handmade charm," she said. "As the PM points out, it’s sad we still rely on imports. Now’s the time to go fully self-reliant for our nation’s benefit."
She also took a dig at opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of badmouthing India on international stages. "Rahul Gandhi keeps condemning the country everywhere he goes," Kangana remarked. "I’m not criticizing the government— he slams India itself. He claims people here fight among themselves and aren’t honest."
Shifting gears on Instagram, Kangana paid tribute to the late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. She first posted a throwback photo of a young Zubeen with the caption "#Zubeenda." Next, she shared a poster from her Bollywood debut film Gangster (2006) and paired it with his iconic song "Ya Ali" as a heartfelt nod. " #zubeenda No one like you," she wrote.
Zubeen Garg tragically died last month in a scuba diving accident in Singapore. Police rescued him from the sea and rushed him to a hospital ICU, but despite top medical efforts, he couldn’t be saved. He had arrived in Singapore for the fourth North East India Festival at Suntec on September 20 and 21. Just hours before the incident, Zubeen excitedly invited fans to join the event on his social media.
