In Ranchi, the state of Jharkhand celebrated 25 years since it became a separate state with a lively Statehood Day ceremony on Saturday. At the Morabadi Ground, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar and Chief Minister Hemant Soren launched a whopping 1,087 new development projects worth ₹8,799 crore. The launches drew several cabinet ministers and community leaders to witness the state’s plan for the next decade.
Governor Gangwar used the occasion to remind everyone of Jharkhand’s roots in the struggles of folk heroes like Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the Sidhu‑Kanhu duo, Nilambar‑Pitambar, and Phool‑Jhano. He praised former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for his role in creating the state and highlighted November 15 as a day that marks both the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda and the country’s Tribal Pride Day. He noted that he feels proud to have voted in favour of Jharkhand’s formation back in 2000 and paid tribute to the late Dishom Guru Shibu Soren, whose lifelong fight the state still honors.
Speaking about progress, the governor praised gains in education, agriculture, mining, energy, sports, and culture over the last 25 years. Yet he underscored that education, health, unemployment, and migration remain pressing challenges that need more sustained focus. “Jharkhand has seen significant development despite its struggles,” he added.
Chief Minister Soren echoed the sentiment, describing Jharkhand as a land of heroes made strong by countless martyrs. He vowed to push the state toward “developed state” status in line with the people’s aspirations, noting that the new generation born after the state’s creation is now leading its growth. The government is pouring resources into village welfare, poverty reduction, farmers, women, and daughters, while expanding health, education, sports, infrastructure, and tourism initiatives that will set new benchmarks ahead.
The event also hosted a tribute exhibition to Shibu Soren’s life, saw cultural performances from across the state, and concluded with petals showered from a helicopter over the venue.
