Tragedy struck near Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh when a tractor carrying children plunged into the Chambal River, killing two and injuring four others. The accident happened on October 2 during an idol immersion ceremony near Narsingha village, about 35 kilometers from the city.
Rescue teams quickly pulled 11 out of 12 children from the water after the tractor-trolley overturned while crossing a bridge. Officials say one child remains missing, and search efforts continue. One of the injured kids needed urgent care, so rescuers rushed them to a hospital in Indore.
SDM Devendra Parasar explained what went wrong: “A tractor loaded with some children sat near the bridge. The kids accidentally started it, and the vehicle smashed through the railing before falling into the river.” He added that the district team is working hard to find the last child.
This tractor accident in the Chambal River highlights the dangers of overloaded vehicles during religious events like idol immersions in India. More details on the Ujjain tragedy are expected soon.
