BNM raises alarm over US EXIM Bank’s $1.25 billion support for Pakistan’s Reko Diq mining project

Quetta, Dec. 12 (LatestNewsX) – The Baloch National Movement (BNM) has voiced strong alarm over the United States EXIM Bank’s choice to grant $1.25 billion in financial support for the Reko Diq mining venture in Balochistan, arguing that any aid to Islamabad only amplifies the human‑rights violations plaguing the Baloch community.

BNM’s spokesperson Qazi Dad Mohammad Rehan said the newly unveiled partnership among EXIM Bank, US officials, and Pakistan flouts international standards and common moral sense.

“We harbor deep, foundational concerns about this action,” Rehan said. “We’ve consistently warned that any financial help or economic engagement with Pakistan inevitably fuels further genocide of the Baloch nation, enforced disappearances, and the systematic looting of our resources.”

The spokesperson claimed that the $1.25 billion U.S. aid package, framed as “so‑called development” in Balochistan, will actually embolden projects that lead to “heightened military operations, forced displacement of local communities, and a speedier, harsher seizure of Baloch assets.”

Rehan urged that the United States, which has fought its own battle against colonial rule and knows the fallout of quashing national liberation movements, must grasp the consequences of this collaboration.

“Despite power asymmetries, every national movement throughout history has resisted external domination until it achieved its rightful goals,” he asserted. “This partnership with Pakistan directly undermines the Baloch national movement and reinforces state repression.”

He added that U.S. financing would ultimately help build more military bases and checkpoints across Balochistan, expand surveillance networks, further exploit natural resources, and crush any Baloch resistance.

“In this context, EXIM’s funding is nothing short of feeding Pakistan’s occupation and the ongoing genocide of the Baloch nation,” he emphasized.

The spokesperson also highlighted the suffering in Balochistan, calling on the United States to examine its own conscience before promoting “attractive investment prospects” in the region.

“Thousands of Baloch young men endure harsh conditions in secret Pakistan Army detention centers, while countless mothers and sisters live in endless grief, waiting for missing loved ones,” Rehan noted. “In such circumstances, U.S. aid does not heal but deepens the nation’s wounds.”

The BNM hopes that American conscience will oppose Pakistan’s oppression rather than “empowering it in the name of investment.”
