On the sidelines of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Niagara Falls, the Indian External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, met Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand. The two leaders talked about ways to strengthen the India‑Canada partnership and praised the progress made under the “New Roadmap 2025,” a framework that India and Canada agreed to boost bilateral ties.
Jaishankar said he was excited to see Anand host the G7 event and highlighted the roadmap’s success. “I’m delighted to meet with FM Anita Anand and congratulate her on hosting the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting,” he wrote on X. He added that the parties look forward to rebuilding a stronger partnership between the two countries.
The Canadian visit comes a month after Anand’s trip to India, where the ministers set the roadmap in motion. Earlier on October 13, Jaishankar and Anand met to “restore and reinvigorate” the partnership mechanisms, stressing how a resilient India‑Canada relationship is vital amid rising global uncertainty and geopolitical tensions.
In a joint statement, the ministers confirmed that the roadmap aligns with the priorities set by both Prime Ministers, focusing on shared democratic values, rule of law, and respect for sovereignty. They agreed that reviving the partnership would boost economic cooperation, secure supply chains, and reinforce strategic stability in a complex world.
Earlier in June, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met Canada’s former governor of the Bank of Canada, Mark Carney, during the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, to revive strained ties. The leaders will continue to work together on trade, technology, and security to keep the India‑Canada relationship strong and mutually beneficial.
