Maintaining goodwill is India’s true nature: Mohan Bhagwat

Mohann Rao Bhagwat, the chief of India’s Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), told a gathering in Jaipur on Friday that true progress comes from goodwill, not just laws or logic. He said that societies struggle when people act only for themselves and that we can not solve problems by rules alone.

“At every turn, selfishness has ruled the world for thousands of years,” Bhagwat said. “When a person in power puts only his own interests first, compassion disappears. Self‑interest is inherently contradictory.” He spoken at the Narad Auditorium of the Pathey Kan Sansthan in Malviya Nagar, where the RSS spoke about social harmony.

Bhagwat warned that some groups are trying to slow India’s development. “Hindus are the lifeblood of our nation. Those who try to break the country first weaken Hindus,” he told the crowd. He added that drug conspiracies are part of this effort to shake the country.

He outlined the Sangh’s upcoming five‑point transformation plan: social harmony, protecting the environment, strengthening families, building self‑awareness, and encouraging civic duty. He explained that when families stay close, problems like drugs and “love jihad” fade away.

The programme urged everyday actions that protect the planet. “Save water, ditch single‑use plastic, and plant trees,” Bhagwat urged. “Let these habits become part of our social behaviour, driven by goodwill that starts with each of us.” He concluded that respect, love and honour among all people can solve every crisis.

Attendees included RSS regional chief Rameshchandra Agarwal, officials from various social organisations and dignitaries from across the state. The session highlighted the RSS’s focus on restoring harmony and fostering a sense of community in India.
