Bogotá, Colombia – India’s cultural outreach in Bogotá expands as the new India Corner opens at Utadeo University. Ambassador Vanlalhuma celebrated the launch on October 7, turning the university library into a hub for Indian books on history, literature, philosophy, diplomacy, culture and the economy.
The Indian Embassy gave thousands of books to the library, giving students and faculty easy access to India’s rich heritage. “The Embassy of India in Bogotá donated books to the Library of Utadeo University,” the embassy said in a tweet on X, adding that the India Corner would showcase Indian works and strengthen educational ties.
Earlier this week, the embassy also joined the International Week at El Bosque University, where India was the guest country. Ambassador Vanlalhuma toured photo exhibitions featuring Mahatma Gandhi and the “sacred India” theme, and the week highlighted Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) talks, a yoga session, the Hindi film Mountain Man, and events promoting Indian tourism and culture. Colombian students painted Indian‑inspired art for a friendly competition.
On October 4, the same ambassador inaugurated the India Corner at the El Bosque library, adding more books to the collection and deepening cultural exchanges.
India and Colombia first established diplomatic relations in 1959. They celebrated 60 years of partnership in 2019 and have signed agreements across trade, science and technology, defence, IT, tourism, space, health, Ayurveda and more.
Colombians are showing growing interest in Indian festivals, dance, music, food and spirituality. Many locals who previously studied classical Indian dance in India now perform professionally in Bogotá and across the city. These cultural links underline the expanding friendship between the two nations.
