In New Delhi on Monday, Indian Army chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi met his French counterpart, Gen Pierre Schill, as the United Nations Troop Contributing Countries’ (UNTCC) Chiefs’ Conclave is set to begin tomorrow. The two leaders went over the growing India‑France defense partnership, exploring ways to boost joint training, fight terrorism together, and share defense technology.
Both chiefs stressed the importance of better teamwork in UN peacekeeping missions. “We need stronger interoperability so our troops can operate side‑by‑side around the world,” Dwivedi said in a post on X.
After the meeting, Schill visited Delhi’s National Defence College, where he spoke with students in the 65th course of the National Defence Corps. His visit aimed to improve senior‑level ties, learn about the curriculum, and swap best practices.
The UNTCC 2025 conclave will bring senior military leaders from 32 nations that are key players in UN peacekeeping. Dwivedi also took time to meet several visiting army officials.
He met Maj‑Gen Tsogtjargal Chimedgochoo, commander of Mongolia’s land forces, re‑affirming India’s support for Mongolia’s defense capacity building and cooperation on global peacekeeping. Together, they pledged to deepen professional military education and regular exchanges.
In talks with Gen Mario Rafael Stevenazzi, commander‑in‑chief of Uruguay’s army, Dwivedi praised Uruguay’s role in UN missions and suggested new training and exchange opportunities to strengthen ties.
On the sidelines of the conclave, the Indian army chief also met Sri Lanka’s army commander, Lt‑Gen B.K.G.M. Lasantha Rodrigo. They highlighted their close defense partnership, with discussions about enhancing joint training, maritime security, and peacekeeping collaboration, underscoring a shared commitment to regional stability and strategic partnership.
