Chief Minister Pema Khandu opened two new blocks at the Dorjee Khandu Government College in Tawang on Saturday, stressing that Arunachal Pradesh is following the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in both spirit and practice. He said the new academic and administrative spaces will help the state produce “the next generation of thinkers, leaders, and change‑makers from the mountains of Arunachal Pradesh.”
Khandu highlighted NEP‑2020 reforms that aim to boost access, equity, quality, affordability and accountability in schools and colleges. He praised the college for quickly becoming one of the most disciplined and result‑oriented institutions in the state.
“Discipline is the foundation of success,” Khandu told students. “Carry this value with you beyond campus and throughout your career.”
The chief minister said a memorandum from the college principal is moving fast to add faculty and staff. He instructed the Tawang Deputy Commissioner to work with the principal on new furniture, boundary markers and a land‑allotment certificate, and assured funds for a boundary wall. To support physical education, he proposed building a playground next to the Tawang Stadium, using old structures in the area and planning phased upgrades over the coming years.
Khandu also expressed thanks to the college community for honoring his late father, Dorjee Khandu, through the Karamveer Dorjee Khandu Merit Scholarship. He announced a major increase in the scholarship amounts: first‑place winners will now receive ₹5 lakh, second place ₹3 lakh, and third place ₹2 lakh—up from ₹35 000, ₹23 000 and ₹15 000 respectively.
“Watching the college consistently maintain over 95 % pass rates and achieve 100 % results in the last two sessions fills me with pride,” he said. He praised Principal Dr. Yeshi Gyetsen for the college’s rapid growth since its temporary start in 2016.
The ceremony was attended by Advisor (Education) Mutchu Mithi, MLAs Phurpa Tsering, Tsering Lhamu and Namgey Tsering, Education Commissioner Amjad Tak and the Deputy Commissioner of Tawang.
