Assam’s security forces made a big hit against drugs and bombs this week.
On October 7, the Assam Rifles teamed up with the Cachar Police and stopped a drug‑trafficking ring in Cachar district. A Karimganj resident was caught riding a scooty in Nilam Bazaar with 20,000 Yaba tablets—worth about ₹6 crore. The team seized the scooter, the drugs, and two mobile phones that belonged to the suspect.
The haul is part of a series of anti‑drug operations carried out by the Assam Rifles across the Northeast. Each seizure helps curb the growing drug problem in the region and signals the forces’ ongoing commitment to clean up supply chains.
In a separate operation, the same troops thwarted a potential tragedy in Jiribam, Manipur. Acting on credible information, they searched the Makha Basti area and found two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) each weighing 12 kg, three 500‑gram power sources, and 12 m of detonation cord. The Bomb Disposal Team destroyed the IEDs on the spot with controlled explosives, keeping the local population safe.
Manipur has been dealing with sporadic unrest, so removing these bombs was a vital step to keep the state stable. The operation shows how close cooperation between security agencies can protect civilians and keep peace.
These achievements highlight the Assam Rifles’ efforts to battle drugs and terrorism in the Northeast, helping to restore safety and confidence across the region.
