The Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 have reached the final stretch.

Why the timing matters
After a week of intense rallies, parties will now focus on getting people out to the polls.
Twenty districts will hold elections, covering 122 assembly seats – a bigger reach than the first phase, which saw voting in only 120 constituencies.

Who is running
The Election Commission lists 1,302 candidates: 1,165 men, 136 women, and one third‑gender contender.
Around 37 million residents are registered to vote in this phase, with 19.5 million men and 17.4 million women eligible.

What happened in the first phase
On November 6, the voter turnout hit 64.6 % nationwide. Begusarai had the highest turnout at 67.3 %, while Sheikhpura was lowest at 52.4 %.
Election officials called the turnout “encouraging,” noting strong public engagement.

Party pushes
The two dominant alliances – the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the BJP and JD(U), and the Mahagathbandhan headed by the RJD and Congress – are in their last rally pushes.
BJP leaders praise the turnout as proof of “pro‑incumbency” and confidence in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Congress analysts warn that 12 of the 15 ministers who contested in the first phase may lose.

National leaders on the ground
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Bihar last week, calling voter enthusiasm a “reflection of public trust in the track record of Narendra and Nitish.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah joined the campaign on Friday, visiting three rallies and staging a large roadshow—an NDA final outreach effort before the 6 p.m. campaign deadline.

Next steps
With campaigning finished today, all eyes turn to November 11 when Bihar’s voters will decide the political future of 122 constituencies.
Results will be announced on November 14, and the state will soon know who will lead its next government.
