Hyderabad – The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) says the ruling Congress party plans to rig the upcoming by‑poll in the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency, and it has asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) to step in.
BRS leaders call for a security sweep of the constituency on election day, Nov. 11. They want central forces on the ground and “real‑time” cameras and webcasts to monitor every polling station. The party says the move would stop fake ID cards, booth‑capturing and intimidation from the Congress campaign led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and cabinet.
“We need centre‑level police on the ground and CCTV cameras at all polling booths in the Jubilee Hills constituency,” says K. R. Suresh Reddy, BRS parliamentary party leader. “This is a fight to prevent mass rigging and intimidation, especially to protect minority voters.”
BRS also raised concerns about the recent inclusion of former cricket star Mohammed Azharuddin in the cabinet, even though he is not a legislator. The party says the move is aimed at swaying minority voters in the area.
The BRS claims the police and civic authorities, controlled by the Congress, have been targeting local BRS leaders. It lists alleged incidents of abductions, beating and false complaints against BRS members who run small businesses. The party says these tactics push the party into a defensive position.
In its letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, BRS said the Congress prepared a “mass rigging” operation, including issuing fake voter IDs using stolen Aadhaar data and duplicate photocopies. The party said they plan to bring non‑resident voters from other parts of Hyderabad, who are expected to vote for the Congress candidate.
The allegations highlight growing tensions ahead of the Nov. 11 by‑poll. The Election Commission must decide if it will deploy extra forces, install cameras and enforce stricter voter ID checks to keep the contest fair and free.
