Key Appointments in Vice President’s Secretariat: IAS Officer Chandrasekar S. Named Private Secretary, Amit Khare Takes Secretary Role
New Delhi: In a major update to the Vice President’s office, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has greenlit two important postings. IAS officer Chandrasekar S. will step in as Private Secretary to Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, while retired IAS officer Amit Khare gets the nod as Secretary. These moves come straight from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), signaling fresh leadership in the Vice President’s Secretariat.
Let’s break it down. Chandrasekar S., a 2014-batch IAS officer from the Kerala cadre, is leaving his current role as Deputy Director at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie. He’s all set to join the Vice President’s team on central deputation, which runs until February 28, 2028—or until his term wraps up with the Vice President’s, whichever comes first. The official order, signed by Deputy Secretary Annies Kannani Joy, makes it clear: his appointment kicks off the moment he takes charge, and it’s co-terminus with the Vice President’s role.
This is one of the first big administrative shuffles since Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan took office earlier this week. Chandrasekar’s experience in public administration will be key in supporting the Vice President’s duties.
On the other side, Amit Khare, a seasoned retired IAS officer, steps up as Secretary on a three-year contract basis, starting from the date he assumes the post—or until further notice. Khare brings a wealth of expertise to the table. He previously served as Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and later as Education Secretary. Post-retirement, he advised the Prime Minister on social sector issues in the PMO. His appointment highlights the government’s push to bring in top talent for vital roles backing constitutional figures like the Vice President.
These IAS appointments underscore the Centre’s focus on smooth operations in high-level offices. As India gears up for more policy work, experienced hands like Chandrasekar and Khare will play a crucial part. Stay tuned for more updates on government postings and Vice President office news.
