Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel joined a lively gathering in Amreli on Sunday for the ‘Sahkar Se Samruddhi’ conclave, which means “Prosperity Through Cooperation.” The event ran alongside the annual general meeting of local cooperative institutions, drawing big crowds from groups like the Amreli District Central Cooperative Bank, Amar Dairy, and the Amreli District Cooperative Union.
In his speech, Patel celebrated how Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah are driving a “cooperative revolution” across India. He pointed out that Gujarat’s cooperative sector has hit a massive turnover of over Rs 4 lakh crore, thanks to the deep-rooted spirit of cooperation in Gujarati culture. Patel drew inspiration from icons like Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of Gram Swaraj and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s cooperative movement, calling cooperatives the heart of rural empowerment in the state.
“By choosing indigenous products and boosting ‘Vocal for Local,’ we can turn the dream of prosperity through cooperation into reality,” Patel said, urging everyone to support homegrown efforts.
He gave a shoutout to IFFCO chairman Dilip Sanghani for his key role in the sector. Patel also highlighted standout successes in Amreli, like Amar Dairy, which employs more than 35,000 people and boosts local livelihoods. He praised women’s credit societies for helping women achieve self-reliance and empowerment.
Gujarat now boasts over 89,000 cooperative societies with 1.65 crore members, and many of these models are inspiring the rest of India. During breaks in the event, Patel honored veteran leaders in the cooperative movement and celebrated top achievers, including new heads of state and international cooperative bodies.
Patel made the day even more special by handing out cheques to beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and the Rural Group Accident Insurance Scheme. He also distributed micro-ATMs to rural cooperative societies to make banking easier in remote areas.
The conclave buzzed with energy, as members of cooperative societies, local lawmakers, MPs, and top dairy and cooperative leaders turned out in large numbers.
