Delhi BJP chief slams Atishi for misleading remarks on relief for flood-hit farmers

Delhi BJP Slams AAP Leaders Over Flood Relief Claims and Farmer Compensation Delays

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva fired back at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders on Tuesday, calling out their "misleading statements" about facilities in flood relief camps and compensation for farmers hit by recent floods. He targeted Leader of the Opposition Atishi and others, accusing them of fake sympathy for flood-affected farmers while ignoring them during AAP’s 10 years in power.

Sachdeva didn’t hold back, saying AAP leaders are just "shedding crocodile tears" for Delhi’s farmers. He pointed out that in the past decade, the Arvind Kejriwal government completely overlooked farmers facing natural disasters. "They failed to provide any real aid to Delhi farmers during floods and storms in 2015, 2016, 2023, and 2024," Sachdeva said. Worse, he claimed AAP even blocked help from the central government.

He dug deeper into the history, noting that back in 2010, the Congress-led Sheila Dikshit government stripped Delhi of its agricultural state status. For the next 10 years, farmers begged the Kejriwal government to restore it, but AAP turned a deaf ear. Without that status, Delhi farmers miss out on key subsidies like cheaper tractors and farm equipment. They also can’t access central government assistance during disasters like floods or hailstorms.

Take the hailstorms in 2015 and 2016 – they wrecked crops across Delhi, but due to what Sachdeva calls the Kejriwal government’s negligence, farmers still haven’t gotten full compensation even today. Fast forward to October 2023, when unseasonal rains devastated fields. AAP announced Rs 55 crore in farmer compensation, but not a single rupee reached the farmers. And in the tough 2024 monsoon season, hit hard by floods, farmers got zero compensation – not even a paisa.

Instead of focusing on Delhi’s flood victims now, Sachdeva urged AAP to look at the "plight of devastated farmers and the poor in Punjab," where their government rules. His sharp words come amid ongoing debates on flood relief camps and farmer aid in Delhi.

On a positive note, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stepped in earlier today, announcing that her government is gearing up to provide compensation to farmers whose crops suffered from heavy rains and floods. Speaking to reporters, Gupta assured, "We will offer relief to farmers. Our team is working round the clock to help everyone affected by the floods get back on their feet."

Her promise aligns closely with demands from the Delhi Congress, which is pushing for Rs 1 lakh per acre in compensation for crop damage due to floods. Gupta praised the administration’s non-stop efforts in rain and flood relief work, adding, "We need to do even more to resettle victims in their homes as soon as possible."

As Delhi grapples with flood aftermath and farmer compensation issues, these political exchanges highlight the growing tension between BJP and AAP on supporting those hit by natural disasters. Stay tuned for updates on Delhi flood relief and farmer aid initiatives.
