New Delhi, Nov 9 – The Delhi BJP slammed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over a controversial by‑election move that could turn headlines for weeks.
During a Sunday briefing, BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said AAP had named a male candidate, Keshav Chauhan, for the Dichaon Kalan Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) ward that is reserved for women. “The AAP put the wrong name in the wrong chair,” Kapoor said, adding that the decision looks like a case of political family favouritism.
BJP also criticised AAP’s choice of Geeta Rawat for the Vinod Nagar ward. Rawat, a former councillor, was previously arrested on bribery charges. “It shows AAP is running out of honest candidates,” Kapoor said.
The BJP spokesperson called Sunday the “Sunday of Scandals.” He added that the party had also flagged a third controversy: an old interview with Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, V.K. Saxena, was posted on social media by an AAP team in an attempt to discredit the current Rekha Gupta‑led BJP government. “The comment was made in January when AAP was in power. Re‑using it now looks like an effort to twist facts,” Kapoor said.
BJP’s message is clear: AAP’s recent moves – fielding a male candidate in a women‑reserved ward, bringing a previously jailed councillor into the race, and re‑posting old political gaffes – expose a shift away from clean politics.
The upcoming by‑elections in 12 MCD wards, including the Dichaon Kalan seat, will be watched closely by voters and parties alike as the clash between BJP and AAP intensifies.
