Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta celebrated a big win for the city on Saturday by opening its first major biogas plant at Nangli Dairy. She called the moment a real point of pride and stressed that Delhi urgently needs more plants like this to handle cow dung and everyday waste.
The new facility cranks through 200 tonnes of waste or cow dung each day. It churns out 5,600 kilograms of CNG gas, which flows straight to Indraprastha Gas Limited via a pipeline deal. Plus, it creates 30 tonnes of rich compost daily, ready to boost farmers’ fields.
Nestled in the Nangli Dairy area of the Matiala Assembly constituency, the plant drew a crowd of top officials for the ribbon-cutting. Gupta led as chief guest, joined by Delhi Minister Ashish Sood, MCD Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat, MLA Sandeep Sehrawat, District Magistrate M. Chaitanya, and other key leaders.
During the event, Gupta didn’t hold back on jabs at former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. She pointed out that the project kicked off back in 2018 but stalled under his watch. “Once the BJP took charge, we wrapped it up fast in 2025 and opened it to the public,” she said. “Kejriwal always dodged questions by blaming Modi for holding things up. The real issue? They just didn’t have the drive to get it done.”
Gupta highlighted how this biogas plant in Delhi fights back against pollution. “It’ll clear out drains, cut down Yamuna River pollution, and pump out green energy while bringing in some cash,” she added. Delhi generates about 1,500 metric tonnes of cow dung every day, so one plant won’t cut it. “We need plenty more to make a real difference.”
On top of gas production, the setup also spits out fertilizers to help farmers. This push for sustainable waste management marks a fresh step toward a cleaner, greener Delhi, tackling environmental challenges head-on with biogas technology and cow dung processing.
