New Delhi, Nov 13 – Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched a new electric bus service that links the capital with Sonipat in Haryana. The route starts at Kashmere Gate Bus Terminal and ends at Sonipat Bus Stand, and it is part of Delhi Transport Corporation’s (DTC) push to make public transport greener and more efficient across the National Capital Region.
The ceremony, held at the Maharana Pratap Inter‑State Bus Terminal, saw the Chief Minister, joined by Transport Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh, raise the flag for three clean‑energy buses. The electric vehicles are fitted with air‑conditioning, CCTV cameras, panic buttons and GPS, ensuring safety and comfort for passengers.
“Re‑establishing inter‑state links is a top priority,” Gupta said. “These buses will reduce traffic, cut emissions and give commuters a reliable, comfortable ride between Delhi and Sonipat.”
The DTC will run six daily trips – three in each direction – to meet passenger demand: departures from Delhi at 4:45 am, 5:15 am and 5:45 am, with evening runs at 4:45 pm, 5:15 pm and 5:45 pm. From Sonipat, buses leave at 7:10 am, 7:25 am and 8:10 am, followed by late‑night services at 7:30 pm, 8:00 pm and 8:30 pm.
The new line connects major stops in Delhi and Haryana. In Delhi it passes GTB Nagar, Azadpur Terminal, Jahangirpuri Metro Station and Alipur, then moves through Singhu Border, Kundli Industrial Area, TDI City, Nangal Mor, and Rai before reaching Bahalgarh and Fazilpur to reach Sonipat. This coverage brings busy commuters, students and workers closer to affordable public transport.
The service is a continuation of earlier efforts. In a previous event, the Chief Minister inaugurated the first inter‑state electric bus between Delhi and Baraut during a celebration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. Now, the government plans to expand clean bus routes to more NCR cities, aiming to strengthen regional connectivity and promote environmental sustainability.
Transport Minister Singh highlighted the benefits: “By re‑introducing the Delhi‑Sonipat link with zero‑emission buses, we not only improve mobility but also help the environment.” The initiative signals Delhi’s commitment to greener public transport and reduced traffic congestion in the capital’s growing urban area.
