West Bengal’s Fire Minister Sujit Bose is back in the spotlight as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) ramps up its probe into a municipal recruitment scam.
The ED has called the minister’s wife, son and daughter to testify at its office in Salt Lake. The family is expected to appear over the next week, with each relative scheduled for questioning on a different day.
Earlier this year, the ED already searched Bose’s home and office. Now, investigators are pressing further into the allegations that the minister played a role in the South Dum Dum Municipality recruitment fraud. The case has already seen the arrest of businessman Ayan Sil and other suspects, and police say each new lead brings them closer to exposing the full scheme.
The ED has raided multiple locations since last year, including Bose’s workplace, a lawyer’s house in New Alipur and the residence of Councillor Nitai Dutta. These raids were carried out under an ongoing investigation into municipal corruption.
Trinamool Congress officials blame the moves on political motives, saying the BJP‑led central government is using the ED to tarnish their image ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections. “Whenever elections approach, central agencies get active and target Trinamool leaders,” said party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh.
The investigation continues as authorities gather more evidence, and the spotlight remains on Sujit Bose and the alleged recruitment scandal that could reshape West Bengal’s local governance.
