Imphal, Manipur – Over the last 24 hours, police and security forces busted a group of eight militants from several banned groups across Manipur. The arrests happened in five districts – Jiribam, Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Kakching – and the cops seized plenty of weapons and ammunition.
The militants were linked to the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Sources say they had carried out intimidation, forced money‑collections from locals, government staff and contractors.
From the suspects the police picked up small arms, an improvised bomb device, personal ID cards (Aadhaar and PAN), several mobile phones, extra SIM cards and a car.
Separate raids in the hilly area of Kangpokpi recovered even more weapons: five locally made bolt‑action rifles, two wireless sets, and a bulk of combat gear and shoes.
The Manipur Police chief added that search operations are still underway in both hill and valley districts. To curb illegal movement, the police set up 115 checkpoints, or “nakas,” across the state. They’re also escorting vehicles carrying essential goods along the Imphal‑Jiribam National Highway (NH‑37) and maintaining security convoys on vulnerable stretches of the road.
Police urge the public not to spread rumours or fake videos. Messages that circulate online can be checked at the Central Control Room. Uploading false posts may attract legal action.
If anyone finds stolen weapons or ammunition, the police ask them to hand them over to the nearest police post immediately.
