Emotional Cameroon envoy gets a comforting hug from Delhi CM Rekha Gupta

In a touching moment at a tree-planting event in New Delhi, a diplomat from Cameroon couldn’t hold back her tears as she planted a sapling in memory of her late mother. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta quickly stepped in, offering a comforting hug that brought even more emotion to the scene.

The emotional exchange happened during the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, a heartfelt initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honor mothers and Mother Earth by planting trees. The Cameroonian ambassador’s eyes welled up while digging the soil at the Central Ridge, PBG Polo Ground. When Gupta noticed, she rushed over to console her.

As the Chief Minister wrapped her in a warm embrace, the envoy shared that her mother had passed away just 15 days earlier. “This Indian tradition of planting a tree in my mother’s name touched me so deeply,” the diplomat said, her voice breaking. The simple act stirred powerful memories, making the moment unforgettable.

Gupta stayed by her side, speaking softly to help ease the grief. Later, she shared the story on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting how the event united people across borders. “Diplomats from 70 countries planted trees in Delhi today in their mothers’ names,” Gupta wrote. “This shows that a mother’s bond knows no language or boundaries. When we honor our mothers, the whole world feels like one family.”

She praised PM Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ drive, calling it a beautiful tribute to both personal mothers and the planet. The event, part of Seva Pakhwada to mark Modi’s birth anniversary, drew Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav and 75 diplomats from 70 nations. It turned into a global push for a greener Delhi, with everyone joining hands for environmental conservation.

Gupta called the gathering inspiring, as world representatives committed to making the city cleaner and more eco-friendly. With Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa by her side, she announced the government’s bold plan: planting 70 lakh trees this year to boost green cover and fight climate change.

Stories like this remind us how small acts, like tree plantation under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, can heal hearts and heal the earth. It’s a campaign that’s not just about saving the environment—it’s about celebrating love that crosses oceans.
