The new Vande Bharat Express entered KSR Bengaluru Railway Station on Saturday, marking a big win for India’s push toward high‑speed rail.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the service from the capital via video, underscoring the government’s focus on modern rail infrastructure.
The ceremony drew Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H. D. Kumaraswamy, senior BJP MP P.C. Mohan, South Western Railway officials, and a host of railway engineers and staff.
Kumaraswamy praised the train as a milestone in India’s mobility transformation, saying it shows “confidence and capability of a self‑reliant India shaping its future through innovation.” He highlighted that the Vande Bharat was designed, built, and perfected by Indian engineers – a true success of “Make in India.”
“This train connects two vibrant hubs of commerce, education and culture,” the minister added. “It will greatly improve convenience for thousands of travelers who need fast, reliable rail links.” He pointed out that transport infrastructure goes beyond speed; it links people, opportunities and aspirations across states.
South Western Railway officials echoed the message, stressing how the Vande Bharat embodies design and engineering excellence while focusing on passenger comfort. The new service will boost economic ties between Karnataka and Kerala, simplify travel for professionals and students, and give a fresh lift to tourism and trade between the states.
The launch also celebrates the hard work of the Indian Railways workforce, whose dedication made the inauguration and operation of this semi‑high‑speed train possible.
With this addition, the Vande Bharat Express now serves 12 routes across India, further strengthening high‑speed connectivity between major southern cities.
